Welcome Linda to the CK Team

What is your new role at ColinKurtis?

As a Senior Content and Copywriter, I provide compelling copy in brand messaging, white papers, web copy, ad campaigns and other marketing elements for our client partners.

What does a typical day look like?

Every day starts with a mocha. Two shots of espresso are a necessity! Coffee, writing and meetings are the constants in a typical day. After that, no two days are exactly alike because of the variety of projects we work on. That’s what makes the workday interesting.

What part of your role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy learning about a client and writing to help them be successful. With my food science background, I also love the fact that I still get to cover the food industry through our food clients, staying on top of trends and R&D developments.

Can you tell us a little about your professional background?

I have a B.S. and M.S. in Food Science from the University of Illinois. Go Fighting Illini! From there, I started working as a Project Leader at Silliker Laboratories, running shelf life studies, challenge studies and Clostridium botulinum tests (Passing out after my botulism vaccine was ‘fun!’). After that, I changed gears and went from the lab to the world of writing, spending the next 20+ years writing for Prepared Foods Magazine and Food Technology Magazine, covering food ingredients, nutraceuticals and food industry trends.

How do you enjoy spending your time outside the office?

I’ve recently moved to the mountains of Colorado, so I enjoy being outside, mostly hiking. I call myself a fair-weather skier: I enjoy skiing when it’s sunny, not too cold and definitely not crowded on the slopes. This year, I may be helping my husband in his chicken and bee-raising adventure. Stay tuned for more on that…

What did you want to be when you grew up (before you knew you would have a career in marketing)?

In junior high, I wanted to be a writer (crazy!). In college, I set out to be an engineer, but freshman year physics made it apparent that I wasn’t meant to follow that path. It all worked out though. I get to be creative, continually learn and write about an industry that is always evolving.
